project: pine cones

DIY pine cone tutorials
{my glitter pine cones}

Pine cones makes for great crafts if you are able to get your pine cones for free - all the better! Did you know that the hard pine cones fall off the trees in the Spring and Summer and the soft cones fall off in the Fall and Winter? Just remember, you are supposed to bake them to get the critters out (unless you are using them for firestarters or for making bird feeders) - baking the pine cones helps to open them and that should get some of the pitch off too. If you would like to preserve your pine cone craft you can use polyurethane spray or hairspray. Here's a wonderful roundup of seasonal ideas using pine cones, please have a look at these bloggers tutorials:

Somewhere in our garage are two bags of pine cones. How a man can clean a garage so well (HA!) and not find those two bags is a mystery, but each post I read about pine cones reminds me mine are missing.
