Hi there and welcome to our home! My husband, our son and I are fixing up this little house and it has taken us since 2005 to get to here. It's been an amazing journey so far, come have a look at what we've done:
Front yard - we rebuilt that porch, made the walkway and the rock wall. I painted the entire house, it was all white before.
Side of house - we made a see-though fence to separate the backyard from the front to contain kids. The gardens were neglected when we arrived here, they are all happy & healthy now!
Garage - also known as Man Cave. I have no idea what's in there!
Front yard - we built a picket fence and a driveway gate for the entire width of the property.
Front door - we have an enclosed porch that works as an extra room in the warmer months.
Porch - I chopped the legs down on a day bed so we could lay there & read and not be seen from the road.
Living room - it's always changing, I haven't quite "nailed it". I realize our sofas are too big for this space but this has to be our tv room as well.
Living room - we made the coffee table out of old pallets and we've altered the built-ins but they're not quite done either.
Living room - the entertainment cabinet for now, it changes very often (should I paint this one, hmmm?). We put up the board & batten all around too.
Dining room - it's got a painted table and chairs. I pick up extra wood chairs here and there and paint them white as well for extra seating when necessary.
Dining room - looking from the living room and into the kitchen. The"rug" is just a piece of linoleum, I'm looking for a way to finish the edges of it.
Dining room - to the left is my office & computer cabinet and to the right is the door to the two bedrooms & bathroom.
Dining room - my little office cabinet, for now. That skirt hiding the computer below were the old curtains in the house when we bought it!
Kitchen - it's all Ikea (sink, faucet, cabinets and counter) and we added the corbels and trim. The backsplash is just chalkboard paint with a piece of trim to finish it.
Kitchen - our floor is porch painted strips of wood we nailed down and the colour changes often (usually to match whatever window treatments are going on).
Kitchen - that's the coffee counter and behind there are stairs down to the unfinished basement and laundry area.
Kitchen - looking towards the back door. That old telephone was in the basement when we bought this house and I had it rewired so it works.
Master bedroom - an old wicker chest nightstand doubles as extra storage for blankets.
Master bedroom - it faces towards the front road and the side towards the driveway. One day it hopes to have a bigger closet.
Bathroom - the tub & shower were pushed out towards our sons room as it was way too small. This was the first room we worked on at it was really ugly before.
Bathroom - that cabinet was a second hand dining room hutch and then our media cabinet before it was here.
Bathroom - one day that transom is going to be windowed to let some light into the hallway. That's another one of my photographs hung there.
Sons room - the wall behind the bookcase is where the bathroom bumps out. One closet is a reading fort. He's really into fishing so it has a fish theme.
Sons room - one day it's going to be my office, we have some plans in the works...
Back yard - here's the back door going out from the kitchen with our patio below. The steps were rebuilt as well as neither the front steps or these had landings.
Patio - at the bottom of the stairs. We poured the concrete ourselves and layed in those pebble "tiles" and installed fence posts for edging.
Patio - our Summer living room, looking towards the garage.
Patio - close up of the pebbles and herbs from my world famous (to me) herb garden.
Herb garden - the birdbath was already on the property and I made that crooked trellis thing from an old picnic table!
Herb garden - it's got so many textures and colours and the scent is amazing!
Back yard - there are 3 apple, 3 cherry, 2 plum and 2 pear trees here (and several wild bunnies). The gardens and lawn are watered by our well.
Back yard - that's the view looking back towards the walnut tree. There is A LOT of mowing that goes on! To the left in the back are the bee hives.
Gazebo - hubby built that with an old wood stove so we can hang out in there in the colder months too.
Bee hives - we have 2 hives producing honey for my seasonal allergies (it works!).
Playhouse - up top playhouse, underneath a lawnmower/pool storage shed & a fully functioning outside bathroom which is perfect, we're outside a lot!
Back yard - I made this sign from beach wood and hung it at the very end of our yard in the gazebo.
Bye - from me, I hope that you've enjoyed the tour and check out some of the before photos below:

You've done an amazing job on your home. And what I particularly like is that it's a work in progress - like most people's homes. I love how bright everything is.

I love your place. It's so bright and happy! I have considered a chalk backsplash. Can you tell me how it holds up to water and cooking splashes?

Heather, your home is beyond incredible! You have done such an amazing job on EVERYTHING!!! I love all of it, every last detail. It's so hard to tell it's a work in progress, because to my eyes it's pure perfection. And your photographs... you take beautiful photographs! Lemonade on the porch one of these hot sunny days? A day thrifting, maybe?
